This year’s fifth Memorial of Silence opinion forum was dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the start of the Second World War.
There have always been wars of words, but never have there been so many people willing and able to hear them. And so the distance from words to wars has never been so short. This is our problem. When there are too many random listeners and readers, people want simple words. But we are complicated.
And we are proud of this fact, for it is a virtue of our trade not to be trivial.
We know that the truth is complicated and that we can only hope to approximate it.
